A live-action teaser brought to life with glowing chat UI, VFX screen inserts, and motion-driven storytelling.

Xero - JAX (AI Assistant Teaser)

For Xero’s teaser introducing JAX, their AI assistant for small businesses, I designed and animated the motion UI system that drives the story. Most notably the frosted-glass chat bubbles and supporting interface elements integrated over live-action footage. Working across pre-production through post with Tantrum’s team, I developed style explorations and storyboards early on, then delivered production-ready UI assets (including VFX screen integrations) used across three storylines: a florist, content creator, and construction worker.

Build an engaging teaser introducing JAX and its value to small business owners.

❋ Goal

Frosted-glass chat bubble system + supporting UI animations integrated into live footage across three stories.

❋ Deliverables

Keep text crisp over footage, maintain a sleek futuristic look, and ensure consistency across scenes.

❋ Constraints

Graphic & Motion Designer (UI motion system, chat bubbles, VFX-ready screen assets, early explorations).

❋ Role

Delivered a cohesive motion UI language that guided the teaser’s look and integrated cleanly in post/VFX.

❋ Outcome

Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects

❋ Tools

❋ Finals at a Glance

A cohesive UI system - designed to stay readable over live action and feel native on screen.

❋ Key UI System

Chat Bubbles (core visual language)
I designed a frosted-glass chat bubble system to keep messages crisp over moving footage. JAX messages use an animated cyan outline/glow for distinction, while user messages sit in a simpler white outline. Bubbles float upward and type on in real time to keep the exchange readable and energetic.

Supporting UI + Screen Integrations
I created supporting UI motion elements built from the same design language, including assets delivered in VFX-ready formats for integration into screens and moments throughout the teaser.

Early Direction
Early explorations leaned on grid-driven supers and kinetic emphasis—work that helped secure the project before the direction evolved into chat-led UI storytelling.
