A nostalgic 8-bit world where IKEA furniture powers the ultimate gaming setup.
IKEA 8 Bit - Motion Graphic AdI led the design and illustration of two IKEA Canada 8-bit room worlds: Casual (green) and Hardcore (red). Reimagining IKEA products in a nostalgic retro game style. When simplified 2D concepts weren’t enough for stakeholders to visualize the final look, I shifted to a more realistic Photoshop workflow to improve clarity and speed approvals.

❋ Tools❋ Final Key VisualsTwo distinct 8-bit room worlds, Casual (green) and Hardcore (red), built to appeal to different gamer types while keeping IKEA products clear, recognizable, and on-brand.
❋ ProcessEarly 2D Concepts - Before
These early frames were used to confirm the foundation of each room before adding realism through layout, perspective, IKEA product placement, and logo/messaging hierarchy. Keeping the visuals simplified helped the team approve the structure and readability first, while clearly distinguishing the Casual (green) and Hardcore (red) worlds.
Shift in Approach - Why it Changed
After review, stakeholders had difficulty visualizing the final depth and finish from the simplified concepts. To align faster and reduce back-and-forth, I shifted to a more realistic Photoshop build that communicated lighting, texture, and scale more clearly. While still preserving the nostalgic 8-bit direction and keeping products recognizable.
❋ More Details-
Inspired by retro 8-bit games, IKEA re-imagined a new catalogue of gaming-setup essentials in a playful pixel-art campaign designed to appeal to different gamer types.

As Design Lead, I led design direction and illustration for two room environments (green casual / red hardcore), re-imagining real IKEA products in an 8-bit style while ensuring product readability and a cohesive campaign look.
-
I began with simplified 2D concept frames to lock structure and logo placement, then refined the approach when stakeholders needed a clearer view of the final look. The later workflow prioritized realism and readability while preserving the pixel-inspired style.
-
Each room was built around a distinct colour story and mood, using pixel-art cues, strong silhouettes, and controlled detail to keep the environments nostalgic while ensuring IKEA products stayed recognizable.
-
Initial 2D concepts helped validate layout, but client feedback showed the need for more realistic previews. This prompted a shift to a clearer visual approach for alignment and approvals.
